This is semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment in several of the building and mechanical trades. Positions of this class may be distinguished from those of Maintenance Worker I by the increased variety and complexity of assignments, independence in carrying out tasks, and responsibility for the final completion of an assignment.



Performs preventive maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment such as air handlers, refrigeration and air conditioning units, high and low pressure steam systems, records meter and gauge readings; cleans coils and oils motors; and replaces belts, filters, switches, gauges, and motors.


Assists skilled plumbers, electricians, electronics technicians, or other higher-level maintenance staff in performing more complex maintenance, repair, and construction activities.

Repairs and constructs wood and metal equipment, furniture, doors, windows, shelves, floors, security screens, and other fixtures.

Opens stopped sewage and drain lines; replaces or repairs faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines, and other plumbing equipment and fixtures.

Repairs and replaces electrical outlets, light fixtures, switches, and other controls; repairs electrical motors, generators, and communication equipment; performs more complex electrical work (such as working with high voltage electrical systems) with appropriate training and education.

Repairs, adjusts, and calibrates a wide variety of machines and equipment.

Maintains an inventory and orders supplies, replacement parts, tools, and equipment.

Receives assignments in the form of work orders, which may be accompanied by sketches, penciled layouts, or blueprints.

Receives general supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor

Performs other related work as assigned.



Primary duties as assigned include:

  1. Ability to trouble-shoot and maintain production equipment.
  2. Comply with safety, regulatory and corporate policies.
  3. Complete and maintain training for HAZ COM, HAZ MAT and forklift training.
  4. Assist with preventative maintenance program.
  5. All other duties as may be assigned.



  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Preferred a Technical Certification in this skilled area
  • Preferred two year degree or more in electrical or mechanical training. 
  • Experience: at least 8 yrs of hands on work experience
  • Specialized knowledge or training: knowledge of welding, electrical, fork truck handling and maintenance; hydraulics, pneumatics and boilers. Able to take both oral and written instruction and complete tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  • Travel required in this position 0-10%
